One of the toilets is only accessible from outdoors. On a winter's night this is not so doable.

So why the dissonant rating? Well the place is great but the guy running it is badly organised. After booking for four nights (confirmed in an email), we were turned out after three. Apparently four nights was really three. We should have read between the lines or some such.

There's a piano and guitar and an awesome wood burner in an expansive tv room with nice sized tv and a DVD player.

There are two fireplaces, both of which function admirably. Wood including kindling is provided. In-room heating is provided.

No dishwasher. But this brought us all together doing something communal. So maybe a plus overall?

Linen, towels likewise provided. Extra bedding (quilts, mattress protectors, sheets) are stored in easily accessible cupboards.

We got our money back for the fourth night, but the whole thing made the holiday very stressful. So caveat emptor or lessee or whoever you are.

This is a big, well-appointed single-story house about 13k past the iconic Stanthorpe, in Ballandean. It's in a great position, close to the many wineries in the region and with nearby access to national parks and tourist attractions.

Minuses: toilets don't have lockable doors. Makes for some awkward moments if you're doing this place with multiple families or teenagers.

There are many beds. When we were there five queen/doubled sized and three singles...and a day bed. We slept two families (eight altogether) with ease.

Pluses. There are two showers. Both are generous.

There are a couple of outdoor eating or just socialising areas (one front and one back), and enough garden to keep the children out of your hair.

Stayed at Rose Cottage for 3 nights in February 2017. Its a cosy 1 bedroom/studio cottage with its own kitchenette, wood fire, high ceilings, private entry, ensuite. I wanted a small self-contained cabin to stay at and when I found this and it was also the cheapest accommodation available I thought it was a great find. When I arrived I was really happy as its much better than I thought. Its in a great location right across the road from the vineyards and only a short drive from lots of other attractions. It was very clean, the towels and linen were really nice, the shower was hot and worked well. I'm a huge fan of wood fires so even though it was quite hot during the day I was very happy that it was cool enough in the evening to light the fire. There is really not much to dislike about this cute cabin at all. A few stray ants walked in under the door from outside and we did notice that we couldn't quite get the flyscreen on the side door to close properly so we had to close that glass door to stop mosquitos coming in (probably not an issue when its colder). Its also quite close to the main house, so if they have 14 people staying there it could get noisy. As there was nobody there during our stay it was completely silent which was lovely. When I read some other reviews some people said it needed maintaining and that the couch was uncomfortable, I dont think that this is the case at all - the couch is an antique style but super comfortable with the cushions, the property is also well maintained. This is a great little spot for a couple to stay if you want something clean, well located and cosy, and at a good price.

The kitchen offers a microwave, a wood fired stove and a gas oven. There's a large fridge, lots of glassware, and plates too.
